According to the dictionary the slang word for a bitch is a malicious, unpleasant, selfish person, especially a woman. A lewd woman.
I am sure we’ve all come across this type of woman. I certainly have and more so in the workplace than anywhere else.
The reason being if I met this type of woman outside the workplace I’d rather consider suicide than socialise with her or allow her into my life.
However, in the workplace you just cannot escape them. They are everywhere, skulking around every corner, ear wigging for information, then gossiping about everything they’ve heard.
There are many different Bitches at Work but here at my top two.
Career Bitches aka CB’s
The CB’s will do anything to get to the top of the ladder, either socially or professionally and at any cost. I respect this type more as at least they’re openly doing it. They make no pretense they are anything but ladder climbers. The CB’s are ruthless and will stamp on anything in their way with no remorse. I’ve worked with many CB’s in my career but they’ve never bothered me as they are what they are. To be fair to the CB’s, they may also work in a very male dominating environment and feel they need to be like this to progress and there’s nothing wrong with progression.
I had an interview with an CB years ago who I could tell instantly disliked me the minute I walked in the room. I’d had been warned about her prior to the interview by my agency. This CB was having an affair with the director of the property firm I was being interviewed for. She was averse to any attractive lady being employed within the company, hence she did all the interviewing.
I’d purposely, as instructed by my agency, worn a shirt buttoned up to the top and a skirt well below the knee. I was 26 at the time and if anyone asked me to do that now. Well. I think we all know the answer.
The CB was openly derogatory throughout the interview to the point where I looked at her, shook my head and walked out. No thanks. I'd rather be unemployed than work for that insecure CB.
Scheming Bitches aka SB’s
The SB’s are the ones to watch. Pleasant to your face but behind your back they’re plotting and scheming, even note-taking with any excuse to ensure your reputation is tarnished and their’s isn’t.
The SB’s are sickly, are always falsely interested in what you’re doing either inside or outside work with the sole purpose so they can repeat everything to anybody else who will listen. The only purpose of this behaviour is power/control. They do it deviously, leading you into believe they have your back whilst all the time plotting to bring your downfall. I’ve met a lot of these in my career and these are the ones that do bother me.
Thankfully, I can spot them a mile off. They are so transparent. They’ve always got a pleasant smile for you. They also try to friend you on Facebook so they can report on anything you do. They make friends with everyone at work, especially any kind of manager. This means they always have something on someone and can look popular within the workplace, giving a false sense of security to new employees that they are respected within the establishment.
They talk about everybody who comes into the office the minute they leave the office commenting on their outfit, their hairstyle or the way they walk or talk but are embarrassingly lovely to their face and they have nothing good to say about anyone.
A typical conversation can go like this.
SB – ‘Oh hello Pauline, good weekend? What did you do? You look lovely today?’
Pauline – ‘Oh thanks, don’t feel too great today. I went out last night and had a few drinks. Cannot wait until five o’clock to go home.’
Pauline has already told the SB far too much here and the minute Pauline leaves the office the SB has taken down her notes and will then go onto say once she leaves...
‘She’s obviously an alcoholic and did you see what she was wearing? She looked horrendous. Think I need to have a word with her manager about her being in such a hungover state and openly saying she wants to go home. You all heard her say that, didn’t you?’
Then off the SB trots to Pauline’s manager to report on her.
Of course, the SB always needs a back-up which is why she always drags fellow co-workers into her repertoire for support. She’s always on the prowl to trap anyone vulnerable into her snare. This is mainly for when the shit hits the fan and Pauline gets a written warning. The SB can then blame anyone else but herself for reporting Pauline and yet still remain friends with her in order to gain more information for future.
You’ve got to remember the SB never takes full responsibility for anything as then her disguise would be flawed. She is the lovely girl remember. The sweet, lovely girl who everyone likes.
I’m sure we’ve all come across these two types of Bitches at Work and if you haven’t, then you definitely will.
Be warned, the sweet innocent girl in the corner maybe the Bitch at Work.
Update to the Bitch at Work
30.4.17 - The MB - Management Bitch
I think I might update this blog daily. Ever come across someone who is so two-faced at work you just laugh at them? I go home daily from my other job laughing. The Management Bitch.
She knows everything. According to her she could run the company. Everyone else has no clue. Now this is the one to watch.
Always up to management reporting on anyone. Never off the management floor. 'I'll just pop upstairs to see management,' comes out her mouth, trying to feel important, but she does not realise...no one cares.
She plays more games than Corbyn.
The MB is Medusa. I have to work with her.
